In 2017 schreef ik een review van het Album Howlin’ van de Amerikaanse band Royal Johnson, in de jaren daarna bleef er zo nu en dan contact met Andy Johnson.
Andy Johnson is een van de twee oprichters van Royal Johnson. In 2018 overleed geheel onverwacht Chance Royal, de andere oprichter van deze band en zijn overlijden was voor klap voor Andy. Andy trok zich terug uit de muziek en stortte zich op het gezinsleven en het verbouwen van zijn huis maar zoals met veel muzikanten bleef de muziek hem trekken en in 2021 schreef hij het verdriet van zich af in het ontroerende album Help yourself, zie review. Tijdens de tour voor dit album maakte hij weer kennis met tal van nieuwe muzikale vrienden waarmee hij het album Roofdog maakte en dit alles leidde tot de Allman Brothers coverband The Restless Natives.
The Restless Natives komen grotendeels uit Macon Georgia, de plaats waar ook The Allman Brothers band vandaan komen. CD’s en dergelijke hebben The Restless Natives niet maar op hun Youtube kanaal postte zij live opnames van het GABBA Fest 2023 Full Performance waar zij speciaal voor de 80ste verjaardag van Dickey Betts met tal van special guests een tribute brachten.
The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association (GABBA) houdt zich sinds 1992 bezig voor het behoud en de promotie van het muzikale erfgoed van The Allman Brothers Band in Georgië, met een jaarlijkse familiereünie van ABB-fans van over de hele wereld.
