Saiichi Sugiyama Band – Somewhere Down The Road
From the album “The Smokehouse Sessions” Cedar Mountain Music (c) 2013
The pure singeing tone of a Les Paul through a Marshall Bluesbreaker – the spirit of British Blues lives on in this album.
Marking a return to form for Sugiyama, who was sang as a “Japanese Blues Master” by the London TimeOut in the early 90s, it wasn’t until this studio live recording that he’d had the opportunity to truly show off his highly acclaimed blues soloing skills in a studio setting. Aided by a kindred spirit, Rietta Austin on vocals, Sugiyama has finally realised his full potential and musical vision in what might be regarded as his Indian summer. Propelled by the explosive rhythm section of his son Mune and Ben Reed, THE SMOKEHOUSE SESSIONS has a potential to be one of the timeless British blues albums.
Saiichi Sugiyama – guitar
Rietta Austin – vocals
Ben Reed – bass
Mune Sugiyama – drums
