News from Matt Taylor
I am writing to tell you about my new band project The Motives feat. Matt Taylor. The band features my erstwhile colleagues Jonny Dyke on keys and Roy Martin on drums along with the very marvellous Andy Graham on bass who we are working with for the first time. Many of you will know Andy from his extensive work with Ian Siegal’s band and you may even be aware of him being current ‘Bassist of the Year’, following the inaugural 2010 British Blues Awards. We’ve never had an award winning bassist before, fancy that.
the plot thickens…
The sound of the band is naturally quite heavy on the squealing electric guitar from me and the screaming hammond organ and tinkling piano from Jonny and mixes Chicago blues of the 50’s and London R&B of the 60’s with a hint of the New York jazz era to give on the whole a pretty ‘urban’ sound, although I’ll now contradict that by saying there are also a couple of more down-home numbers for good measure, including a tribute to our friend the late, great Kevin Thorpe. And we all look jolly smart as you can see in the picture.
when, where, how…why?
We have recorded the bulk of an album already, over a few rainy days in January and the tracks are being mixed here at Taylor Mansions. I will make some tracks available for free download as and when they are ready. There is already one track available to download from our ‘official’ Facebook page where you can also choose to ‘Like’ us, see link below.
There are also plenty of pics of us rehearsing and posing about in our finery on my own personal Facebook page and also a You Tube clip which cleverly combines the audio and visual mediums. There will of course be gigs in due course and if you are an agent or venue do get in touch. Look out for more tracks and videos over the next few weeks and I’ll keep you posted on all developments.
