The latest offering from this pair of UK bluesmen finds Scottish-London import Wily Bo Walker again working his butt off, turning in another excellent performance that highlights his remarkable vocal range, fiery fretwork and truly top-dollar writing talents. From the off with opening track, Storm Warning, this double-disc release draws the listener straight into the story-telling lyrics where Walker shares the credits with his long-time music buddy, Ed Brayshaw.

Describing the musical mix as a ’film-noir…. two paths, three people and one story,’ these guys deliver pumped-up, blues-primed tracks that simply  echo with delightful hints of the US and its southern music roots and traditions. And then, as if to catch you out, they throw in a smile-inducing cover of the great Loudon Wainwright’s Motel Blues, a song that catches the forlorn, at times lonely life of a travelling musician out on the hard-nosed tour-highway, before continuing with the themed blues route reflected throughout the thirteen-track double album.

While we often think of Walker as the main guy in this potent partnership, it’s worth noting that Brayshaw is more than just along for the ride, with some mighty impressive guitar picking and clearly nuanced writing skills of his own. When combined with Walker’s own distinctive voice, guitar and abilities, the result is an album that is a genuine treat in so many ways. An absolute cracking bit of work from a perfect pairing led by the noted swagger of Walker’s driving approach and attack.
