The prospect of adding three more Grammys to his mantle doesn’t seem to move Keb’ Mo’. And the fact that none of the nominations is in the category of blues is of little consequence.
Once regarded as a savior of the blues by music critics, Keb’ Mo’ is more interested in making music on his own terms. The title of his latest record, “BLUESAmericana,” provides a frame for the style in which he sees himself operating. The record picked up two Grammy nominations in the Americana category and another for best-engineered non-classical album.
Leading up to his performance in Cincinnati, Keb’ Mo’ talked about what a Grammy win would mean and why categories for music don’t mean as much now as before.
