ELI “PAPERBOY” REED
Brand New Album- ‘Come And Get It’
released April 5th, 2010

Parlophone Records are proud to announce the release of the brand new album, ‘Come And Get It’, from US soul sensation Eli “Paperboy” Reed. The follow-up to his first two independently-released albums (‘Sings Walkin’ and Talkin’ and Other Smash Hits!’ and ‘Roll With You’), ‘Come And Get It’ is Reed’s major-label debut.

Eli “Paperboy” Reed started playing in high-school bands as a teenager in his native Boston and through a chance encounter moved straight from school down to Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta to work at legendary blues radio station WROX. Whilst in Clarksdale he played various juke joints and lounges, including the Delta Blues Museum, and it was there that the grizzled veterans coined his “Paperboy” nickname as Reed explains; “I used to wear this hat, my grandfather’s hat, a newsboy hat – it’s retired now. Everyone in Clarksdale had a nickname. They gave me that one and it stuck with me.”

Soon he moved on to studying in Chicago where he expanded his musical palette playing Sunday morning gigs behind the organ at a tiny South Side Chicago church before, full of confidence he moved to New York City and was soon headlining the coolest clubs in Brooklyn with his red-hot band.

After two albums, the word-of-mouth buzz on Reed reached fever-pitch, including Reed receiving a nomination at the 2009 Mojo Awards for Breakthrough Artist of the Year here in the UK. And now Capitol Records in the US, having secured his sought-after signature, are very excited to be releasing ‘Come And Get It’ through Parlophone Records in the UK.

On ‘Come And Get It’ Reed proves to be the life and soul of a swinging, sweaty party in which everyone gets dragged onto the dance floor. As a performer, he approaches each song with nothing less than utter conviction; he’s as authentically gritty as he is ingratiatingly sexy. Reed incorporates the feel of classic R&B, blues and soul into a largely self-penned, 12-song set, produced with Mike Elizondo, the bassist-turned-producer whose credits include, among others, Eminem, Pink, Gwen Stefani and Fiona Apple. Admirers have likened Reed to such greats as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett; the Boston Herald called him “Brooklyn’s answer to Sam Cooke.” But he’s not merely trying to recreate a sound; Reed is channelling his influences and inspirations into making something all his own.

“For me,” says Reed, “it’s just about writing pop songs. Those are the kind of artists that I was influenced by and those influences are a big part of what I do. When I pick up a guitar to write a song, that’s how it comes out. For me, that music has been completely internalized. I’m not trying to put anything on; this is what comes out, this is what happens, I can’t sing any other way than I do.”

Praise for Eli “Paperboy” Reed:
“There are singers who sing and there are singers whose sheer power of expression can knock you off your feet. Eli “Paperboy” Reed falls firmly into the latter category… The brilliantly nicknamed singer combines the sob of Al Green with the beef of Otis Redding and boasts a band, The True Loves, who look young enough to be in some emo group but have better taste…

[He] threatens to be one of the defining voices of the year” – MOJO

“A belting singer….A call to party like it’s 1969” – THE TIMES

“A voice to rival the greats” – THE WORD MAGAZINE
