The Blues Foundation, based in Memphis, has announced the winners for the organization’s 32nd annual Blues Music Awards after holding an awards ceremony on Thursday, May 5th, 2011 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. Some 1,400 blues people gathered at the Cook Convention Centre to attend the festivities.
Once again, Buddy Guy turned out the star of the show. To add to his Lifetime Achievement Award from last year, Buddy took the stage no less than five times to receive BMAs. “You don’t hear a lot of blues in the radio these days. I’ve been fighting for it, and nothing’s gonna stop me from playing the blues”, he pointed out.
A massive cavalcade of artists played live during the six-hours-or-so event. Steve Miller Band, the opening act, was one of the most awaited performers. They played a blues-rich, 30-minute set even though the Band is best known for their rock hits such as “Fly Like an Eagle”, which, unsurprisingly enough, was heard as the closing number.
The Blues Foundation handed out the Awards for the 32nd time.
