Andy Johnson is an award-winning middle-Georgia roots music maker. Roofdog is available 3 march 2023 and is his first full-length release since 2021’s acoustic album Help Yourself.
Johnson spent the last two years traveling the southeast promoting Help Yourself, playing everything from solo gigs at small dives and live streams at local radio stations, to large festival stages with his 4-piece band. Roofdog is the first release to feature this band, which performs under the same moniker, and features Trey Dunnahoo on bass, Ethan Hamlin on keys, and James Lengel on drums.
The album contains full band songs recorded in 2022 at Macon’s subWATT Studio by Matt Laws, a pair of acoustic tunes recorded at Caution Light Media in Waycross, and a live track from the 2022 Swamptown Getdown Music and Arts Festival in Waycross. Roofdog is available for download and streaming on all major platforms on 3/3.
Notable co-bills in Johnson’s career include The Doobie Brothers, Willie Nelson, Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Margolin, Joan Osborne, Cowboy, Jimmy Hall, Stillwater, Jack Pearson, Randall Bramblett, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Avett Brothers, Greensky Bluegrass, The Steeldrivers, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’, Brent Cobb, Audley Freed, Infamous Stringdusters, Marcus King, Cody and Luther Dickinson, Roosevelt Collier, The Autumn Defense, Chris Knight, Turnpike Troubadours, Boddy Lee Rodgers, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, The Georgia Thunderbolts and Band of Heathens.
