'Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs' turns 50 this year! To celebrate, the original album has been given the luxury half-speed mastered treatment at Abbey Road Studios by Mile Showell, available on 13th November on vinyl and CD.
Both the 4LP and 2CD editions feature bonus material including session outtakes, B-sides and live performances, some of which have never been released on vinyl before. The special 4LP box set also comes with a collectible 12x12 book of sleeve notes.

Blues Top 50 2020 op Arrow

Ook dit jaar is er in de feestmaand “Rocktober” weer een editie van de Blues top 50 aller tijden. Een uitgelezen moment voor de liefhebbers van de Blues om hun mooiste titels weer eens op een rijtje te zetten.
De uitzendingen vinden plaats op 7, 14, 21, 28 oktober 2020 in De Bluesbox, een programma dat ondertussen al meer dan 20 jaar bestaat en dat zich ondertussen verzekerd weet van een grote vaste groep luisteraars. De Bluesbox wordt elke woensdag avond van 21.00 tot 22.00 uitgezonden op Arrow Classic Rock radio en is een programma van Gerry Jungen.

The wait is over, Joe Bonamassa’s new solo studio album Royal Tea inspired by his British guitar heroes Jeff Beck, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Eric Clapton and Cream was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and will be released on October 23rd via J&R Adventures. Bonamassa also surprised his fans this past Friday with his latest single, “Why Does It Take So Long To Say Goodbye.”

Recent tijdens het concert van The Strikes deed Big Pete een oproep om Billy Boy Arnold te eren. Zij deden dat met twee vlammende nummers van deze oude blues man. Billy Boy Arnold is een zanger gitarist en mondharmonica speler, inmiddels 84 jaar maar nog steeds onder ons. Zijn laatste wapenfeit is The Blues Soul of Billy Boy Arnold uit 2014. Begin jaren 90 maakte hij zijn zoveelste comeback, met Back where I belong een plaat vol klassieke blues, heerlijk old school. Om gehoor te geven aan de oproep van Big Pete heb ik die uit de collectie opgevist.

Deze maand is het vijftig jaar geleden dat het levenloze lichaam van de 27-jarige Jimi Hendrix op een hotelkamer in Londen werd gevonden en er een einde kwam aan de turbulente carrière van de meest virtuoze en flamboyante gitarist die de wereld ooit heeft gekend. “Een goed moment dus om nog maar eens een boek uit te brengen”, moet popjournalist Philip Norman hebben gedacht. Zodoende verscheen onlangs in de aanloop naar de vijftigste sterfdag van Jimi Hendrix, de zoveelste ‘definitieve biografie’ over het leven en vooral ook over de dood van de Amerikaanse muzikant.

2020 had zo´n mooi blues jaar kunnen worden, alles was klaar voor een goed jaar, Moulin blues, Ballyshannon, Bospop, Holland international blues, Wacken, Culemborg, Guitar heroes, een hele rij aan blues/rock festivals stond op de planning. Door de crisis sneuvelde het ene na het andere festival en ik zag het somber in. Maar opeens was daar een lichtpuntje na een succesvolle test in augustus kwam uit Duitsland het bericht van Guitar heroes in Joldelund op 11 en 12 september door zou gaan. A decade ago Jimmie Vaughan released his definitive album Blues, Ballads and Favorites. It was a stunning collection of 15 of his favorite songs. Vaughan followed the album up in 2011 with More Blues, Ballads and Favorites, digging deep into the music that had helped shape his life in the blues.
On October 30, 2020, the Last Music Co. will release a special 3-vinyl LP set of these two albums titled The Pleasure’s All Mine, spotlighting the music of one of the true pioneers in showcasing the roots of American music. It will also be available on a 2-disc CD collection.
