Biography Susan Tedeschi

Whether sharing the stage with the Rolling Stones, BB King, Willie Nelson or Sheryl Crow; performing on national TV or singing the American National Anthem at NY Knicks, Boston Red Sox and Celtics games, four-time GRAMMY® award nominee blues/rock vocalist & guitarist, Susan Tedeschi, always delivers.

Tedeschi was born in the Boston area and has been performing since childhood. She joined her first band at 13, and was on the Boston club scene before she finished attending the prestigious Berklee School of Music.

Tedeschi burst on the scene with a gold-certified album that earned this earnest roots rocker a 2000 Grammy nomination for Best New Artist along (her first of four) with some unlikely company – Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Kid Rock.

With six albums and one live DVD under her belt, Susan Tedeschi has sold over a million records in the US, alone. Tedeschi has developed a loyal, grassroots following garnered from years of touring, potent live shows and radio support.

Critically acclaimed, she has scored four Grammy nominations, from 2000 – 2007 including Best New Artist in 2000, Best Female Rock Vocal in 2003, and Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2004 & 2007. She has been recognized for both her recorded & live performances with many awards including WC Handy Awards and Boston Music Awards, etc.

The way Tedeschi’s vocals manage to get soul across has earned her comparisons to Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin, while her musical approach puts her in the company of genre defying musicians of blues / rock / roots. She has since grown into a singer of great power and conscience.

In 2001, Tedeschi married guitar prodigy Derek Trucks, famous for his own band as well the Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh and Friends, and Eric Clapton. Tedeschi and Trucks have two children and live in Florida. When they aren’t touring their own records, they join forces and perform as Soul Stew Revival, a true family road show with the extended family and children in tow.

Tedeschi has worked with acclaimed producers Tom Dowd (Allman Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, John Coltrane), Joe Henry (Solomon Burke, Aimee Mann, Bettye Lavette) and George Drakoulias (Black Crowes, Tom Petty)
“I don’t really know how to describe what I do, other than ‘American roots,’” Tedeschi says. “I think back to the ’60s, when Bob Dylan, Mahalia Jackson and Muddy Waters would play on the same bill.”

Her new album ‘Back to the River’ is getting rave reviews and has scored the highest chart debut of Susan’s career – #71 on the Billboard Top 200, and #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart! For nearly a month after release ‘River’ held the #1 spots on iTunes, Billboard and Amazon Blues Charts. Radio single ‘True’ maintains solid play on AAA stations. Album features songs co-written with Gary Louris, John Leventhal, Tony Joe White, Tommy Sims, among others.

Touring extensively in North America for years, Tedeschi is expanding her international career touring this July 2009 in Europe.
