The name of Jim Carlisle, a talented Irish singer/guitarist does not need to be introduced anymore as he has become a semi-legend of his own, with a reputation for his wild impromptu blues concerts.
Jim remembers his musical journey beginning in early 1964 as a 15 year old invited to his first concert by “Them”, featuring Van Morrison. They done Turn On Your Love Light by Bobby Bland and as the song got faster and more frantic, someone was flicking the lights on and off. Yeah! A wild initiation to blues music. Seduced by this exciting new sound, Jim formed many local groups until 1969 when he left Ireland in the footprints of his contemporaries, Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore, to the London scene. He played regularly and the Marquee Club in Londons Soho district and many large festivals and home and abroad including lead guitar for Champion Jack Dupree and tours alongside Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall. In the mid 70s Jim found a new beat, the rebirth of Rockabilly to which he fused his blues style, writing and recording many songs at home, playing all instruments and having fun. His first Rockabilly disc, a cover of Dont Start Crying Now from Slim Harpo hit high in the London Charts and Jim had several appearances on BBC shows. Later as co-founder of the Blue Rhythm Boys in 1980, he introduced his slide guitar technique on Rollin & Tumblin by Muddy Waters, another massive hit, and still sought after by record collectors. Ever playing his mixture of rockin blues, another group was formed by Jim in 1985, The Jumpin’ Jacks with an authentic sound and energetic stage act they excited audiences in England and abroad, also backing many visiting American rockabilly legends, Joe Clay (pictured), Hayden Thompson and Jimmy Wages. The Jumpin’ Jacks, as they are today still include the original drummer and acoustic guitarist Ian Bowerman, who started with the Jacks, at the early age of 14, in 1985. Ian gives a powerful display on his drums interacting with Jims frenetic guitar solos, and as a 2 piece they also present an acoustic blues set.
